2020 Upcoming Events

Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Frys
Youth Volunteers Needed —
February 21, March 6, March 20, April 3

Sacred Heart youth are being asked to assist with 2020 Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Frys, as we did last year. We need 6 youth for each event to help clear tables, wash dishes, etc. Youth can arrive as early as 4:45 and stay as late as 7:15, as cleanup is finished. The meals are from 5-7pm. There are 7 frys total; our youth are being asked to work 4 (Feb 21, Mar 6, Mar 20, Apr 3). Not only is this a great way for youth to work alongside Knights to help with these fundraisers that support the community, but also Knights will donate specifically to the youth account, which in turn funds camps, NCYC, family socials and more. Teens can use volunteer work for service hours if needed. Parents are WELCOME to come and help, too! When you arrive, just check in with a Knight (such as Duane Kliethermes) to ask where help is most needed. Contact Melissa Albertson if you have questions. Please click here to review the available slots and to sign up for one or more frys.

Made for More Evening Event

Cathedral of St. Joseph, Jefferson City — May 5

Where do we come from and where are we going? These questions are DECISIVE for understanding what it means to be human and how to orient our lives and our actions toward authentic fulfillment. Join Christopher West and Mike Mangione as they creatively weave together dynamic presentations with live music, movie clips, YouTube videos, and sacred art for an evening of beauty and reflection on the meaning of life, love, and human destiny. You will come away with a faith-filled vision of hope that will instill in you the sheer wonder and joy of being alive. This would be a wonderful event for parents and teens to attend together. Diocese of Jefferson City Youth Summit
Capitol Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, Jefferson City — Saturday, May 17

Bishop Shawn McKnight wants to hear from teens across the Diocese as he begins to compose his first pastoral plan. Parishes have been asked to form a delegation of teens (4-8 kids) to represent their parish at the Summit. Teens will be given a unique platform on which to learn about, discuss and provide feedback on Bishop McKnight's priorities. Visit the 2020 Summit Page for more details! Contact Melissa Albertson if you are interested in being part of the delegation.

Totus Tuus Summer Program
Sacred Heart — July 12-17

Once again, Sacred Heart parish will host the Totus Tuus program this coming summer. Save the date and plan for your children to attend. The day program (Monday-Friday) is for incoming grades 1-6 and the evening teen program (Sunday-Thursday) is for incoming grades 7-12. We know there are many competing summer events, including family vacations, but we ask you to prayerfully consider scheduling that will allow your children to attend this program, which always is popular among parish youth of all ages. Older youth can volunteer during the day program in addition to attending the night program. A pool party is tentatively planned for Friday, July 17.

Diocese of Jefferson City Summer Camps

Information/registration for the 2020 Diocese Summer Camps are now available! Visit the following sites for details! Each camp costs $150 to attend, but Sacred Heart Parish will pay half the cost of registration for each student desiring to attend one of the camp. Contact Melissa Albertson for information. If that still creates a financial hardship for a family, scholarships are available through the Diocese.

Parish School of Religion (PSR)

The Sacred Heart PSR program meets after Sunday Mass, mid-September through the end of April and includes classes for children Pre-K through Grade 12 (Confirmation). If you have a child or children to register, please contact the parish office. Parish Schools of Religion (PSRs) provide catechetical instruction to children and youth who attend public schools, so that young people can grow in intimacy with Jesus, be knowledgeable about their faith and integrate the teachings of the Gospel into their lives. Parish religion programs also prepare young people for the reception of first Sacraments Reconciliation and the Eucharist. It is a great blessing and joy to help the parents in teaching their children of God’s love for them and God’s plan for their lives of virtue and success.

Confirmation, together with Baptism and Eucharist, form the Sacraments of Initiation that are all intimately connected. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. For questions about the Sacred Heart Confirmation program, please contact Christie Jung for questions at 573-392-5390.

Diocese Changes to Confirmation Age

In the spring of 2019, the Diocese of Jefferson City announced that Bishop McKnight approved a plan to lower confirmation age in the Diocese to seventh grade, to be implemented over the course of three years.

Diocese of Jefferson City Youth Ministry

To help parents and youth keep up on all the latest happenings, the Diocese of Jefferson City has a website for the Office of Youth Ministry. It was developed to provide an easier, more accessible way to connect with the Youth Ministry office. Under the Youth Programs drop-down menu, you can find links to many upcoming summer camps and retreats.
